Theme: Production of litmus paper from conventional materials

Abstract

The pH scale measures how likely a substance is to give up protons and how likely that substance is to accept protons. Many molecules, including dyes, will change their structures by either accepting protons from an acidic environment or donating protons to a basic environment.

Testing for pH is an essential part of many chemistry and biology experiments. This test can be done by coating paper strips with dye that will change into different colours in the presence of an acid or a base.

African Conventional Science believe so much on conventional items and resources all around us. We are trying to create this important awareness most especially at this time when our government is trying hard to see to it that our local resources are put to use.

We shall keep you informed as the competing candidates forward in their projects. In our entries, we have got about five entries who have signified interest.
